Fukuura Island ("Fukuurajima" in Japanese) is an island located about 0.7 km east of the coast of Matsushima-kaigan.

It is the largest island in Matsushima Bay and is about 300 meters from east to west and 300 meters from north to south.

It is connected with the east part of Matsushima-kaigan area by a bridge.

The bridge is called "Fukuura-bashi", and is the symbol of the island.
The length is 252 meters.

This bridge is called as "bridge for wonderful encounter".
If you cross this bridge, it is said that you will meet a nice person.

There are some walking trails in the island, but it is hilly.
There are a few observatories and parks.
You can enjoy the forest and the scenery of Matsushima.

And there is small Bentendo temple at the south part of the island.
